Assessment
| Component | Weight | What counts |
|---|---|---|
| Participation | 30% | Participation in class discussions and in-class investigations |
| Assignments | 30% | Homework and assignments set on the class pages |
| Final report | 40% | Final project and presentation |
The instructor assesses these questions:
- Is your question clear?
- Can another person check your sources and rerun your commands?
- Do you state what you counted?
- Do passages support your interpretations?
Corrections supported by evidence and results that do not support your prediction also count. The number of commands and the size of the project are not criteria.
Attendance
You may miss at most four classes. Students absent five or more times are not eligible for a grade.
Class pages remain available after class. If you miss a class, read its page and bring the notes listed there to the next class.
Submissions
Submit the files listed in the assignment at the submission page (campus network only). Enter your student number and name, choose the files, and press Submit. Resubmitting the worksheet or the CSV replaces the earlier one. A text file replaces only a file of the same name. Do not include API keys or personal conversations.
| Assignment | Files | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Class 3 homework | CSV with rows 8–10, dh-b-movement.json, notes |
Before class 4 (October 27) |
| Class 4 homework | CSV with rows 11–12, evidence record | Before class 5 (November 10) |
| Evidence assignment | Report under its six items | Added to this table before class 5 |
| Final project | Notebook or program (see below) | Added to this table when set |
Saving, reopening, and submitting work: saving worksheets and notebooks, and what to keep with a submission.
Final project
Your final project may be a marimo or Jupyter analysis notebook, or a program with explanations. Include a question, a record of the data used, steps another person can repeat, results or a visualization, checked examples and errors, and a conclusion that states the analysis’s limits.
The presentation lasts about 15 minutes, including questions. The instructor may adjust the timing to the number of students.
The dates for proposing your question and source, revising your method, checking reproducibility, and presenting your project are added to the class list as each class page is published.
The final submission’s files and deadline are added to the table above when set. The evidence record specifies what to keep for each step.
